Chef Akila's Award-Winning Frozen Curries — Now in Stock at Roots & Vines
If you've been ordering Chef Akila's curries by post and paying courier fees to get them down to Devon — good news. We're now stocking them right here in the shop at 12 West Street, Tavistock.
If you haven't come across them yet, you're in for a treat. Chef Akila is a 76-year-old grandmother cooking traditional South Indian family recipes in her five-star rated Yorkshire kitchen. Her meals have picked up more than 50 awards for taste, and everything is slow-cooked with natural ingredients, then fast-frozen to lock it all in. The whole range is gluten-free too, so it's safe for coeliacs.
Why we love them
We're always on the lookout for small producers doing things properly, and Chef Akila's ticks every box — real recipes, honest ingredients, and a family business behind it all. These are proper curries, biryanis and dals that go from freezer to fork in about ten minutes. Perfect for a Friday night in when you can't face cooking but don't fancy a greasy takeaway either.

We've started with a core range of their best sellers — chicken and lamb curries, biryanis, and some lovely vegan and vegetarian options too. Pop in and have a look, and if there's a particular dish from their range you'd like us to get in, just ask — we're happy to add to the line-up.
